Worship The world gives worth to many things. God desires us to give Him worth above everything else. He created us for this purpose. The music ministry of Calvin leads us in ascribing worth to God as we worship each week.
Reaching Music is an effective way for the church to obey the great commandment to share the gospel and make disciples. Music enhances the church’s outreach ministry by offering people a creative way to serve God and by providing an engaging presentation of the gospel.
Encouraging Our lives revolve around relationships. Our relationship with God gives us the ability to have fellowship with each other. Singing in a choir or playing in an instrumental ensemble gives our musicians an opportunity for fellowship in ministry by blending their gifts with other musicians.
Chancel Choir
These singers are the main team of vocal ministry. They rehearse and sing weekly during their season which runs from September through early June. The group is composed of all volunteers and no audition is required.
Chancel Bells
The thirteen members of the Chancel Bells ring a six octave set of bells. They rehearse weekly and lead in worship about once each month during the months of September through June. An interview with the director is required for membership.
Chancel Bell Ensembles There are two ensembles from the Chancel Bells. The Chancel Bell Quartet meets weekly and presents music in worship occasionally during the year. These ringers have outstanding skills and many years of experience with handbells. The 12 Bell Ensemble is a six member group that rehearses regularly during the year and provides music for worship and other special occasions. They are unique in that they don’t require tables for their bells which makes them extremely versatile.
Worship Bands Adult and youth worship bands provide contemporary music for worship services and youth events. Each group has a weekly rehearsal and leads in worship almost every week. Membership is by interview and audition.
Children’s Music
A choir for children meets weekly during the school year. The children sing occasionally for worship and present special performances at Christmas and in the spring. Music is also an important part of Children’s Sunday School. Exciting music written especially for kids is featured every Sunday morning.
Music Scholarships Scholarships for private lessons are available to our church members through the Johnson Music Scholarship. Recipients must be active members of at least one of Calvin’s ongoing music groups. Scholarships are available to adults, youth and children. Information is available through the church office.
Media Ministry Media technology has become an essential tool in our worship services. Team members serve on a rotating basis to provide sound and image projection for weekly and special services.
