Blue Christmas Service of Hope
• Sunday, December 10, 7:00 pm •
While the refrain “Joy to the World!” rings out often in December, many people find the Christmas season to be disheartening. Especially for those who are grieving over the loss of a loved one, struggling with illness, dealing with family conflict, or have experienced the loss of a job, it takes more than colored lights to alleviate the darkness they feel.
A Blue Christmas Service recognizes the traditional role of Advent as a season of identifying with God’s people longing and waiting for the coming of the Messiah. The service allows us to be honest about the grief and loss we carry with us toward Christmas, instead of only pretending that everything is “merry and bright.”
All are invited to attend this service, but those looking for comfort, hope, wholeness, and renewal are especially encouraged to participate. Through prayer, readings, and silence we will bring our whole selves to the One who came for us the first Christmas, and receive the comfort, hope, and even healing that only Christ can give.
Pray about who you could invite to accompany you to this service, making it easier for one or both of you to share in the healing Hope of Christ this season.
The light shines in the darkness… John 1:5
